Baby plaque

I used my neice's newborn foot prints to make a sample of the new product I mentioned a bit ago.
I figured it's easier to get an idea what I'm talking about if you can see it. :)

I also had another idea. The plaques I use can be purchased at Walmart, or Michael's.
The person who wants to order a plaque can purchase one of the blanks, then trace their child's hand print, or the whole family if they like. Then mail it to me, I can burn it and add wording, or graphics.
What do you think of that idea??

You know how when a baby is born the hospital fills out a form with the baby's foot prints on it?

Well, I was thinking that I could make plaques commemorating the birth of a baby by wood burning the foot prints, and all the birth info on to a 5 x 7 plaque. The border could then be painted blue or pink.

What do you think?

I'm actually working on paint today. I painted in the eyes and teeth. Just makes it pop a little more. I am also painting the border of it. Tomorrow will come clear coat.

Layout change

Since I've done paws in the corners before and I like to keep each one unique, I opted for a row of paws at the bottom.
I like it. :) I have an inyerview this morning... I may end up working for the day to see how it goes. Then I'll get to working on Tillie's portrait. :)

Shipping charges...

Unfortunately I'm going to have to start charging more for shipping.
I just came back from the post office after shipping 4 plaques.
They were all being shipped within the USA, and all were over $7.00.
Add into that the cost of the padded envelopes, that brings my shipping costs up to over $9.00.

I've been charging between $5-6. With money being tight I'm making it hard on myself to get them shipped out.

I hate to do it, but I have to raise the cost. :(

Stained with maple stain, gold wash over the lacing with dark green borders.

Another commissioned piece. This one will be going to Jackie in Florida.

This one is finally done. It's very hard to tell in the photo, but the border is 2 tone purple and green.

This one still needs paint. I have to paint the border purple and green then clear coat it.

But like the last one, I need to get more clear coat. Hopefully soon!

My sister and her hubby remodeled a small powder room in their home.

There was NOTHING on the walls.

Natasha's Memorial Box.

I lost my dear sweet Natasha on December 22, 2007. She was a heart dog.

I owned her mother, so Tash was literally my dog from her first breath.

Perhaps that is why we had such a strong bond.

She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in May of 2007.

It was pretty advanced when discoverd so I decided to not put her thtough any torturous treatments that would not really benefit her. She lived longer than the vet predicted. I think it was her love for me that kept her going. We had her euthanized when her suffering out weighed her quality of life. My sweet partner paid to have her cremated in a private cremation. I wanted to create a special final resting place for her so I made this box. It is large enough to hold her ashes, her collars, and photos.

I made this project summer of 2008.

It looked incomplete, so I added Ivy leaves & vines.

She was a disc dog.

Making sure where I want to put the heart.

Staining.

I attached the heart, lined the inside with felt,

and reinstalled the hardware with glue in the holes to make them more durable.

Already for her, and her stuff.

I unfortunately used the wrong type of glue to affix the cremation certificate. :(

Otherwise I am very proud of how this box came out.

It was truly a labor of love for a special friend.

In 2005 Jeff bought a turd of a pick up that shortly killed itself.
He decided to get rid of it by cutting it up and scrapping it. His friend helped.

It was a lovely spring day, for Pennsylvania. So after work Jeff and I went to play Bocci at the park. We took Takoda so he could get a break away from Oskar for a change. (though I felt guilty for leaving him home.) Next time we will bring a rake and a shovel. The courts were a mess! But we had fun anyway. It was just nice to be outside for a change.

The sunsets are really pretty at this park.
I took this one as we were heading to the car from the Bocci court.
I loved how the sunlight looked through the trees.

I found a hill where you get the best view of the sunset!

I am so involved in Live Journal TOTALLY forgot that I made this blog!
I guess I better start using it.
I am in the process of organizing (yipe) all my photos. My poor antique computer will probably heave a meltdown once I start Picasa back up... oy!
Once I get that done, I will start posting them on here. Probably some of my pyrography projects too.
Speaking of pyrography, I am on the hunt right now for Doberman photos. GOOD quality Doberman photos so I can use them for a new plaque. I am going to so a simple one for the Damon's Den Doberman rescue reunion picnic. I am going to do one with a couple different dogs on it to auction off on Ebay for the rescue too. I did one for Pitbulls, I better do one for the rescue I volunteer for. :)
